During a boxing match, fighters compete to knock each other out or score the most points. Judges track the accrual of points and vote for a winner if neither fighter gets knocked out. The results of the match include the distribution of scores, the overall winner, whether a championship belt has changed hands, the number of penalties assigned by the referee and other match data.

Function

Boxing is a competitive sport in which fighters seek to dominate all others in their league and class. Many leagues cater to a specific skill level or region. For example, the World Boxing Organization sanctions and regulates professional boxing matches across a variety of weight classes. Sports reporting organizations and other sources compile news and results from various leagues, and analyze it for the public.

Types

Newspapers, sports magazines and television stations dominate the reporting of results of professional boxing matches and the latest news concerning the sport at large. You might have more difficulty finding information concerning amateur and semiprofessional match results. If you want to learn the results of a specific match, check a regional newspaper and the official website of the league that sanctioned the match. The website will have contact information for league staff and perhaps breaking news reports that discuss recent matches.

Boxing Magazines

Boxing magazines provide in-depth coverage and analysis of the industry. Some magazines focus on larger leagues, while others include coverage of regional or semiprofessional leagues. Leagues themselves sometimes issue newsletters and bulletins, allowing fans to track the progress of their championship series and the results of matches involving specific boxers.

Message Boards

Though not entirely reliable, you may be able to glean news of recent matches from message boards. Look for a reliable website that discusses the particular leagues or boxers in which you are interested. Also, check public forums at the websites of popular sports-reporting organizations. For example, ESPN provides a message board where fans can interact, share news about their favorite boxers and discuss the latest matches.
