Losing weight, increasing your energy level and being happy are three things that can go hand-in-hand. If you are overweight and do not exercise, your quality of life may be affected due to a constant lack of energy, health problems and unhappiness or depression. It is important to address your diet and activity level in order to lose weight and gain energy. Happiness is also something that must be worked at to achieve.
Losing Weight
Step 1
Fill your plate with fruits and vegetables and lean meats instead of high-fat and high-calorie dishes with rich sauces and gravies. Seasoning vegetables with spices that suit your taste will make them pleasing to eat.
Step 2
Drink water or unsweetened tea in place of soda, to decrease sugar and calories in your diet. You can also mix fruit juice half and half with club soda for a carbonated drink with fewer calories than common soft drinks.
Step 3
Write down everything you eat and drink during the day to keep yourself accountable for what you eat. This will help you think about what you're eating and will force you to evaluate whether you are actually hungry or if you're eating for another reason such as boredom.
Step 4
Share you weight loss goals with a friend or family member whom you trust. Ask her to keep you accountable to your goals through daily calls or email messages. You could also choose someone who you know wants to lose weight and live healthier as well, and start the journey together. When you have someone to answer to, you are more likely to stick to your plan.
Increasing Energy Levels
Step 1
Follow a schedule where you wake up and go to sleep around the same time each day. Your body has a natural clock that causes your body to function better with more energy when you get proper sleep and listen to your body's signals to wake up or go to sleep.
Step 2
Schedule a minimum of 30 minutes each day to get some exercise. You don't have to go to the gym. A simple walk around your neighborhood, playing with your kids or weeding a flower bed counts. Exercise will help boost your metabolism and energy levels, burn fat and calories, and help you lose weight. Exercise also releases endorphins, which will help with your mood.
Step 3
Drink approximately 64 oz. of water per day, or as advised by your doctor. Water is required for your body to operate optimally. If you are dehydrated or drink lots of caffeinated beverages, your body will not be able to function at its highest level and you will feel sluggish.
Attaining Happiness
Step 1
Evaluate yourself and your life to determine what your gifts and talents are. Employ those abilities to give to others and charitable organizations. Finding meaning in life is a leading contributor to happiness, notes Psychology Today.
Step 2
Learn to live with the situations that happen in your life with mindfulness. Mindfulness involves living in the moment and accepting your feelings without letting them negatively affect your mood or outlook. Instead of letting situations and feelings cripple you, allow them to just be and move on in a productive and positive direction.
Step 3
Set goals in your life and work toward them. Working on goals can help you to feel happy, especially when you break down larger goals into smaller more manageable ones.
Step 4
Avoid status anxiety. If you continuously find yourself comparing what you have to all your friends and finding that you fall short, adjust the expectations of yourself.
Step 5
Work toward building happiness by visualizing the best life you can imagine for yourself once per week. Express your gratitude to those around you frequently through words, letters or emails. These things will help you focus more on the good in your life and less on the negative.
Step 6
Look at the big picture. You may not feel overly happy in your day-to-day activities, but if you look back over the past year or five years, you may be surprised. A good example of this are parents caring for young children. The daily responsibilities can seem overwhelming and frustrating; however, when reflecting upon years gone by, parents usually focus on the positive, remembering only the happy times and feelings of love and joy.
