Little League provides competition, fun and lasting memories for young baseball players. Many major leaguers got their start in Little League, and it is an effective training ground for future talent. Little League has rules on game play and sportsmanship, as well as specific rules regarding equipment. Enforcing equipment standards ensures everyone is safe and no player has an unfair advantage over another.

The Bat

Little League baseball bats can be no longer than 33 inches, with a diameter no larger than 2 ¼ inches. Little League bats can have a bat performance factor, which measures the liveliness of the ball coming off the surface, of no more than 1.15.

Baseball

Little League uses standard baseballs measuring 2.94 inches in diameter.

Gloves

A Little League glove can be no longer than 14 inches from top to bottom, or 8 inches wide across the palm. The webbing can be no more than 5 ¾ inches across at the top, and any weight is acceptable. Pitchers must have a solid colored glove with no white or gray and must not wear wristbands.

Batting Helmets

Batting helmets must have a National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment, or NOCSAE, stamp to be eligible for use. You are not allowed to repaint or tape the helmets or use any decals other than that of the manufacturer.

Catcher's Equipment

A Little League catcher must have a catcher's mitt and a full chest protector with neck collar. He must wear shin guards plus a helmet with mask and a dangling throat protector that will cover his neck.

Supporters

Male Little League players are required to wear an athletic supporter, but the rule is rarely enforced. Some players find them uncomfortable, but it is a wise idea to have one on just in case.
