Physical activity games for children are designed to help keep your kids active and interacting with other kids. While such games are often played in physical education classes and after-school programs, many of them can be organized by you and your kids at home. Physical activity games include sports, tag and a range of other diversions.

Elbow Tag Game

This game is a variation on the classic game of tag. Have a group of kids break off into pairs and link their arms together at the elbows. Take one of these pairs and break them up into the player who is "it" and the player who is being pursued by "it." On your mark, the other child should run away from "it." If he is tagged, then he becomes "it." However, if the prey links arms with one of the other pairs, then the player whom he did not link arms with is now the prey. If the prey successfully links arms with one of the pairs, then he is safe until another player links up with him.

PIG

This basic basketball game is a simplified version of the game "HORSE." Get a group of kids together at one end of a basketball court. Give them a ball and have them decide who will be the first player to shoot. The first player to shoot can pick any place on the court and take a shot. If she makes the shot, the next player must imitate the exact shot. If this player misses, he gets the letter "P."

If the first player misses her shot, then the second player chooses where to shoot from. The last player left without all the letters wins.

Indoor Foot Volleyball

This game is designed to improve coordination and athletic ability. Grab a 10-foot piece of string and tie it a foot off the ground to two static objects. Have a group of kids divide into two teams and then sit crab style on each side of the rope. Using only their feet, the kids should kick a balloon back and forth across the net. If the balloon lands on one team's side, the other team gets a point.

Flag Tag

This game of tag is designed to improve agility and speed. Have each kid put on a flag belt with two flags attached. Pick a child to be "it." On your whistle, the "it" child chases after the other kids in an effort to remove both flags from each player. As soon as a child loses both flags, she also is "it" and must chase the remaining players. The last player left with any flags wins.
