Fast weight loss using only diet and exercise carries a variety of health risks. This type of weight loss is also unsustainable and according to Dr. Donald Hensrud, an expert in preventive medicine at the Mayo Clinic, the results are usually short-lived. Fast weight loss with minimally invasive surgery is possible without risking your health in the process.
Step 1
Speak to your doctor. Your physician should be consulted before any surgical procedure to determine whether your health allows you to undergo surgery.
Step 2
Locate a board-certified plastic surgeon. Liposuction requires special tools and special skills to perform. These surgeons have the expertise required to perform this procedure with minimal risk to your health and limited surgical scarring.
Step 3
Undergo a liposuction procedure. Liposuction of the abdomen is usually carried out under general anesthesia. The subcutaneous fat is sucked out using a specialized needle and an aspirator. This procedure lasts between 2 to 5 hours.
Step 4
Rest. Hospital stay is usually not required after a liposuction. Slight swelling may occur after a liposuction procedure but it usually goes down in a couple of weeks. Avoid intense physical activity in the two weeks following the surgery.
Tips and Warnings
- Exercise and eat a healthy diet to prevent the build-up of fat after the surgery.
