While recreational skaters keep to the paved sidewalks and jogging trails, aggressive skaters prefer a different approach, utilizing the specialized design of the aggressive skates to execute freestyle maneuvers. Even the most basic aggressive skating tricks can result in painful injuries, so wear a hard plastic or carbon fiber helmet when learning and practicing skating tricks.

360 Grab

Practice jumping in a stationary position to get comfortable with the basic movement. To execute a 360 grab, you will need to find an aggressive skating ramp. Utilize an angled ramp at your local skate park. Skate toward the ramp at a medium speed and jump vertically as your skates reach the apex of the inclined ramp. Spin your shoulders while lifting your knees toward your chest. Grab the side of the skate with your dominant hand. Release the grab as you complete the 360 spin and bend your knees to absorb the impact of coming down.

50-50 Stall

Many aggressive skaters prefer the U-shaped, half-pipe ramp. Position your skates over the metal coping at the top of the ramp. Lean forward to drop in. Bend your knees as you begin to climb the vertical portion of the half-pipe wall and jump as you reach the top lip of the ramp. Rotate your shoulders 180 degrees. Rollerblading.com recommends landing onto the metal coping with your skates in a perpendicular position. Drop back into the half pipe to complete the 50-50 stall.

Royal

The Royal refers to the most basic grinding trick in aggressive skating. Practice the Royal grind on a flat ledge before moving on to a rail. Approach the ledge with a comfortable amount of speed. Jump above the ledge while rotating your shoulders 90 degrees. Align the grind plates of your aggressive skates onto the ledge in a perpendicular position. Aggressive Mall recommends leaning back slightly as your skates slide across the ledge. Jump away from the ledge to complete the Royal grind.

Back Flip

The back flip remains a stylish but dangerous aggressive skating maneuver. Try to find a skate park that features a foam pit to aid in the learning process. Use a sloped kicker ramp to ensure that you have enough time to complete the full motion of the backward somersault. Extend your legs to jump as you reach the top of the kicker. Lean back while bringing your knees to your chest. Maintain the somersault position by holding your knees in place. Watch the ground to spot your landing and bend your knees as the wheels make contact with the pavement.
