Acupuncture is an oriental based approach to medicine and treatment for ailments. According to the Acupuncture Massage College, acupuncture needles work directly with your body's energy and help rebalance your qi through certain acupoints. The treatments are more commonly known for helping with pain but have also been successful for treating a variety of other disorders.

Musculoskeltal Disorders

Acupuncture has been known to help some people with musculoskeltal conditions such as paralysis in certain areas of the body following a stroke. Those suffereing from painful ailments like sciatica and osteoarthritis have found releif through acupuncture treatments. Tennis players and golfers also will sometimes resort to acupuncture for treatment with elbow inflammations from overused or strained muscles.

Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is one of the more common conditions people suffer from as they age. As opposed to sudden injuries or accidents, lower back pain is something that can develop over years of bad posture, lack of exercise, or heavy lifting. Acupuncture is sometimes a better alternative to surgery as it is less invasive. While it will not correct any physical problems like disk herniation or fractures, it can help relieve discomfort and pain for a time.

Stress

Just about everyone goes through times of stress in their daily lives. For most, eating right and having a balanced diet is enough to help relieve them. For others stress can lead to conditions like anxiety and depression. Many sufferers find acupuncture to be more relaxing and a better way to treat their condition as opposed to medications and chemicals. Acupuncture on certain areas of the body can help melt away stress and relieve other related conditions like headaches and nervousness.

Smoking Addiction

Smoking addiction is one of the major causes of deaths around the world. Some experts believe nicotine is more addictive than cocaine. Which is why many smokers have a very difficult time giving up the habit. There are many different ways to try and quit smoking and one of them is through acupuncture. Through the use of needles on certain pressure points, acupuncture helps relieve the anxiety and discomfort caused by nicotine withdrawal. Acupuncture is a less expensive way of quitting compared to most others and has about the same success rate.
