Homeopathic medicine is a form of natural medicine that uses nontoxic extracts of plant, mineral or animal products. While this system of medicine is controversial in North America, homeopathy is widely used in Europe by medical doctors specialized in the area. If you suffer from diabetes, consult a homeopath or naturopath to find out which remedy or combination of remedies may help you. Keep in mind that homeopathic remedies do not replace any anti-diabetes drugs you are currently taking.
Metal Album
If you are a diabetic, and you are losing weight despite increased appetite, and you feel irritable and anxious, you might benefit from metal album. This remedy is also indicated if you have skin ulcers of the legs and feet, you feel weak most of the time, says Dr. Reckeweg, MD, homeopath and founder of modern homeopathy.
Uranium Nitricum
This homeopathic supplement is derived from the mineral with the same name and is indicated in cases of diabetes associated with increased need to urinate, especially at night. Laboratory tests reveal glucose in urine. Uranium nitricum is also indicated in men who suffer from erectile dysfunction as a result of diabetes or anti-diabetes drugs, notes Dr. Reckeweg.
Phosphoricum Acidum
Phosphoricum acidum has a similar effect as Uranium nitricum, being indicated in diabetics who suffer from erectile dysfunction. This supplement also helps with depression associated with weakness in diabetics, says Dr. Reckeweg.
Phaseolus
Homeopathic phaseolus is a remedy that may help diabetes associated with glucose in urine and impaired heart function, according to Fredrick Schroyens, MD, author of "Synthesis."
Lycopodium
Lycopodium is remedy derived form herb scientifically known as Lycopodium clavulatum. This remedy is one of the most common supplements recommended by homeopathic practitioners. Lycopodium helps improve digestion and helps detoxify the liver, especially in diabetics, says Dr. Roger Morrison, MD, author of "Desktop Guide to Keynotes and Confirmatory Symptoms."
Natrum Sulphuricum
Like Lycopodium, the homeopathic Natrum sulphuricum is indicated for improving digestion, being particularly helpful for diabetics, says Dr. Reckeweg. This remedy is prepared from the mineral with the same name.
Secale Cornutum
If you suffer from complications of diabetes affecting circulation, such as tingling and other abnormal sensations in the feet, or gangrene, you might benefit from homeopathic Secale cornutum, notes Dr. Reckeweg.
Research
Based of clinical studies conducted by Dr. Reckeweg, MD, homeopath and researcher, a homeopathic supplement based on lycopodium, metal album, Natrum suphuricum, Phaseolus, Phosphoricum acidum, Secale cornutum and Uranium nitricum helped to decrease the need of insulin replacement in research studies. He also recommends this combination remedy for both type I and II diabetes as an adjuvant therapy to conventional anti-diabetes medication.
