Nutrition Value of Jasmine Pearl Flower Tea

Jasmine pearl flower tea is a fragrant, refreshing tea made by combining jasmine flower blooms with different types of tea leaves. The primary ingredient in jasmine pearl tea is green tea, although sometimes this beverage is made with black or white tea. Jasmine is native to parts of Asia and the Middle East, and along with green tea may provide several healthful benefits.

History

Tea has been the beverage of choice in China for 4,000 years, and different types of teas where enjoyed as refreshing drinks and for medicinal purposes. The flowering jasmine plant originated in Persia and was brought to China around 300 A.D. Tea made with this plant became popular during the Song Dynasty between 960 and 1270 A.D., according to the Green-Tea-Health-News website.

Ingredients

Jasmine pearl flower tea is a combination of one of several types of tea and the flowering bloom of the jasmine plant. Green tea is the usual base of jasmine pearl tea, but it may also be made using black tea or white tea. The blossoms of the jasmine plant are added to the tea base and allowed to steep until the desired strength is achieved.

Green Tea Benefits

Green tea, the main ingredient in most jasmine pearl flower teas, contains a high concentration of antioxidants called polyphenols. The University of Maryland Medical Center states that these antioxidants fight free radicals which can alter and destroy cells, and notes that several clinical studies show that green tea can help prevent coronary artery disease, certain cancers, diabetes and liver disease, and can help lower cholesterol and reduce symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease.

Additional Benefits

Jasmine pearl flower tea has often been used as a treatment for depression, including postpartum depression, anxiety and symptoms of menopause according to Green-Tea-Health-News, although these claims have not been proved through scientific research. Jasmine tea is also used for preventing the influenza virus and for boosting immunity. Jasmine pearl tea may reduce cholesterol and lower blood pressure; however, these claims are not backed by research.
