Fun sport games for kids can help boost your child's competitive edge, keep him in good physical shape and help him play well with other children. While competitive sport games, such as baseball and football, require intense coordination and practice, several fun sport games are appropriate for children of all physical levels and abilities.

Double Disk

This flying disc game can help improve your child's throwing ability and accuracy. Use cones to mark off a 20-foot by 20-foot playing space. Take a 20-foot rope and lay it down the middle of the space. Send half the children to one side of the rope and half to the other. Hand each team a flying disc and on your mark, have them throw the discs back and forth to each other. Whenever both discs end up on one team's side of the field, the opposing team gets a point. The first team to 10 points wins.

Crab Soccer

This variation of a traditional soccer game will improve your child's coordination and keep her entertained. Get a group of kids together and divide them into two teams. Place two cones on each side of a field to use as goals. Instead of a soccer ball, use a big, squishy ball. Have both teams get on their hands and feet with their stomachs pointed upward in a crab position. On your whistle, have them stay in this position and attempt to kick the ball into their opponent's goal.

H.O.R.S.E

This shooting basketball game will improve your child's scoring ability and creativity. Gather a group of kids and have them choose a player to shoot first. The first player to shoot can pick any position on the court to attempt a shot. If he makes it, the second player in line must make the exact same shot. If his shot does not go in, the next player can shoot from any point on the court. If someone makes a shot and the following player misses, that second player gets a letter. If you get all five letters you are out of the game. The winner is the last player left without all five letters.

Beanbag Basketball

This variation on a regular basketball game is designed to be a younger kids' introduction to the game. Take two buckets and place them in your backyard 20 feet apart. Divide a group of kids into two teams and have them flip a coin to see who will be on offense first. The first team with the beanbag must pass the beanbag back and forth to make forward progress. Once you catch the beanbag, you cannot move. Players must pass it until someone has an open shot at the bucket. The first team to score 10 points wins.
