High school sports stadiums get a lot of attention because many are taxpayer funded. High-tech fields, with synthetic turf, lights and other features, are generally afforded to football teams. In some parts of the country, baseball shares the spotlight. High school baseball fields in Texas, Washington and the Carolinas are considered among the 10 best in the nation.

Tivy High School

Kerrville, Tex. is home to Tivy High School, which enrolled 1,381 students in 2010. Located Northwest of San Antonio, Tivy's natural grass field is sought after for playoff contests. Its builder, Texas Multi-Chem, claims, "The quality and condition of the turf sets this field apart from any other field in the state."

John H. Reagan High School

In May 2010, John H. Reagan High School in Austin, Tex. was selected as the beneficiary of a field upgrade by the Major League Baseball Groundskeepers and Baseball Tomorrow Fund. The groundskeepers received donations from the largest names in athletic field maintenance and Baseball Tomorrow. The field was dedicated on January 11, 2011.

Kansas City's Bishop Ward was named one of the top five high school fields in the city. "Kansas City Kansas" high school sportswriter Nick Sloan writes, "As you walk into Bishop Ward High School's baseball diamond, you immediately notice the countless number of banners on the right field wall. Catholic Central High School

The field at Burlington, Wisc. Catholic Central High School earned the 2010 National High School Baseball Coaches Association/Profile High School Field of the Year. The field sits on city land with a lake in right field, and is kept up by volunteers, according to the NHSBCA award information. "They have torn the old grandstand down, and rebuilt almost everything from the concessions to the bullpens and dugouts."

St. Louis University High School

The 480-seat Sheridan Stadium at St. Louis University High School was a district winner in the NHSBCA/Profile Field of the Year contest. The natural turf sits adjacent to the football field and track, has a separate bullpen and closed dugouts.

Westerville South High School

Located in suburban Columbus, Ohio, J.W. Sadler Field was the 2009 Sports Turf Managers Association Parks/School Baseball Field of the Year. Owned by Westerville South High School and maintained primarily by volunteers and players' parents, the field is a natural surface hosting more than 400 hours of play each year.

Shelby High School

Shelby, N.C.'s high school was awarded top honors for its baseball field. The field was named the best high school field in the state by IMPACT Baseball, a regional high school baseball website. Shelby High School, located 45 miles west of Charlotte, competes at the 3A level, which is the second-highest level of play based on school enrollment.

St. Pius X High School's field was a district winner in the 2010 BCA Field of the Year awards program. According to a press release from the Albuquerque, N.M. school, the field was nominated by multiple high school coaches and the State of New Mexico's Activities Association.

Poway High School

An article in the North County Times, reprinted on the SportsTurf Managers Association of Southern California's website, calls Poway High School's natural turf baseball field "pristine" and the best in its region. Poway is located between San Diego and Escondido off Interstate 15.

Calvert Hall College High School

Located in Towson, Md., Calvert Hall College High School's field was named the 2009 NHSBCA National Field of the Year. The field at Carlo Crispino Baseball Stadium was designed by Ripken Design, named for baseball legend Cal Ripken Jr. Opened in 2008, the field cost $1.8 million to build, according to a Ripken Designs press release.
