Titleist has long been one of golf's primary club manufacturers. Like many other manufacturers, Titleist has put much of its research and development into its wedges. Titleist makes a standard pitching wedge, a gap wedge and a lob wedge. All of these clubs have differing lofts that allow you to hit the ball specific distances that suit your game.

Pitching Wedge

A Titleist pitching wedge has a loft of about 45 degrees. You can use this club when you are 110 yards or closer to the flagstick. A pitching wedge will allow you to hit the ball over hazards and trees and then land the ball softly on the green. A well-struck Titleist pitching wedge will help you get the ball within 25 feet of the flagstick.

Gap Wedge

The Titleist gap wedge was designed to help golfers get shots that are between 60 and 90 yards to the green. The gap wedge has a loft of about 50 degrees. This club will help you get shorter shots closer to the hole. When struck well, the gap wedge will apply backspin to the ball and get it stop shortly after hitting the green. It should be able to land within 20 feet of the flagstick.

Lob Wedge

The Titleist lob wedge will have a loft of about 60 degrees. It is for shots that are less than 60 yards from the green. A lob wedge allows you to hit the ball high over hazards like trees and land the ball within 15 feet from the hole. It is a difficult shot for most high- and medium-handicappers, but top amateurs and pros can use the lob wedge to drop three to five strokes off of their average score.

Chipping

Most golfers want to use their wedges whenever they are within 100 yards of the green. However, pitching with the wedge is not always the answer, such as when the ground is hard and sun-baked. In order to be a complete golfer, you have to learn how to chip in these circumstances with a 7-, 8- or 9-iron. This will complement your play with your wedge.
