A good pair of basketball shoes should not be underestimated, according to the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. It is important to invest in a long-lasting, quality pair of shoes since so much time is spent pounding the feet on the court. The type of shoe that is worn is often related to a player's performance and stability on the court. Players can choose from numerous quality shoes on the market today.
Considerations
When choosing a pair of basketball shoes, consider a pair that can support shock absorption, foot stability and flexibility. The American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine claims this can greatly reduce stress to the feet and legs. Since runners are encouraged to replace shoes every 300 to 500 miles, basketball players should do the same. NBA players are said to replace their shoes every seven to 10 days because of the amount of practice and time spent on the court every week. Sixty-eight percent of NBA players choose a high top shoe, 15 percent play in a 3/4 top shoe, and about 10 percent will use a low top shoe for regular play.
