Trying to lose weight affects millions of Americans every day. Just the thought of losing weight can cause a bit of reluctance. There is no miracle pill out there to help you lose all your weight and keep you healthy. However, some natural food supplements may aid in your weight loss. It is vital to consult with a medical or health professional to guide you in both your nutritional and health benefits. It may also be helpful to check in with a personal trainer, to help you incorporate exercise into your daily life. Being active is another important part of any weight loss or weight-maintenance program.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., a nutritionist with the Mayo Clinic, claims there is little scientific evidence that apple cider vinegar can help curb appetite or burn more fat. Zeratsky suggests eating healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean sources of protein. She also suggests incorporating physical activity into your daily routine to help in your weight loss.

Kelp

Kelp is a type of seaweed that can be eaten raw, but it is usually dried, granulated or ground into powder. It is also available in a liquid form that can be added to your water or used as a condiment for flavoring, says Phyllis A. Balch, author of “Prescription for Nutritional Healing.” Kelp has been used in the treatment of thyroid problems, due to its iodine content and has been used to treat conditions, such as obesity.

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6, also known as pyridoxine, is involved in more bodily functions then almost any other nutrient, says Balch. It affects both your mental and physical health. Vitamin B6 is beneficial if you suffer from water retention and helps the absorption and assimilation of fats and proteins. Balch also notes that Vitamin B6 acts as a mild diuretic and can help in weight loss.

Lecithin

Lecithin is a type of lipid that is needed by every living cell in the human body, states Balch. Lecithin allows fats, such as cholesterol, to be dispersed in water and removed from the body. You can sprinkle 2 tbsp. lecithin granules on your cereals and soups or add them to your juices or bread. Taking one 1,200 mg capsule before each meal helps in the digestion of fats and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, says Balch.

Considerations

The energy in the body is stored as weight and comes from three sources. Protein and carbohydrates each contribute only 4 calories per gram. Fats supply 9 calories per gram. Gaining weight from fats is twice as easy as from carbohydrates and proteins. Fat is a major cause in slowing your metabolism. Highly processed foods, such as refined sugars and flours, are also the culprit. Minimize your fat intake. Eat a healthy diet. Develop healthy habits and exercise to help in your weight loss.
