Vinegar & Tea Tree Oil as a Lice Treatment

Head lice is a communicable condition in which small, parasitic insects develop and hide within your scalp. Signs and symptoms of head lice includes itching, red bumps on the scalp and an uncomfortable sensation from the lice movement in the scalp. According to C.J. Puotinen, author of "Nature's Antiseptics: Tea Tree Oil and Grapefruit Seed Extract," you can use a vinegar and tea tree oil mixture to help relieve head lice. Tea tree oil has excellent antiseptic properties to treat infections while apple cider vinegar may help loosen the lice eggs in the scalp. Always consult your doctor before performing any alternative health treatment.

Step 1

Shampoo your hair with a mixture of 3 tbsp. of shampoo and 2 tbsp. of tea tree oil. Lather the mixture and apply to your scalp and hair. Let it stand for 5 minutes, then rinse your hair well with water.

Step 2

Shampoo again with another 3 tbsp. of shampoo. Rinse your hair thoroughly.

Step 3

Mix 1 tbsp. of tea tree oil with 1 cup of water in a small cup. Add 1 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar to the cup and stir it with a spoon.

Step 4

Wash your hair thoroughly with the tea tree oil and apple cider vinegar tea tree oil. Dry your hair and style as usual.
