"Steppin' " has became a popular pastime for many individuals. Stepping first began in Illinois in the city of Chicago. It is an up-beat dance similar to the bop and the crocodile. There are associations for steppers on a city level, state level, national level and even on an international level.
National Steppers Society
The National Steppers Society states that its main goal is to teach this dance. In addition, this society wants to provide quality entertainment for anyone who enjoys this kind of dance. The National Steppers Society was founded in 1993 and as of 2011 was still going strong. This association offers classes for different skill levels out of its Chicago and Peoria, Illinois, locations. If you are interested in steppin' performances but do not want to dance or you just enjoy watching these performances, the National Steppers Society holds many performances in locations throughout Illinois.
International Steppers Association
The International Steppers Association has been around since 1950. It is located in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. The International Steppers Association is a branch of the World Dance Organization. In addition, it is also part of the World Swing Dance Council. The International Steppers Association's main goal is to spread the educate the public about the art of steppin'. However, this association also is trying to developmentally change the art of steppin'. In addition, the International Steppers Association is known for raising money for charities.
NC Steppers Association
NC Steppers Association is a steppin' association that represents the steppers of North Carolina. NC Steppers Association was founded in 2006. Its main location is in Greenboro. This association offers classes as well as celebrations and dance parties. The main goal of this organization is promotion, recreation and education. This group's goal is to broaden the horizons of the North Carolina citizens and trying to expand beyond North Carolina.
Twin Cities Steppers Association
The Twin Cities Steppers Association is a city organization based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This association was founded in 2004 by Kevin Johnson. Johnson started out by creating an instructional DVD on how to step dance. It became popular quickly, so he widened his education efforts by founding the Twin Cities Steppers Association. This organization offers instructional classes for those interested in learning the art of steppin'. In addition, this organization also offers parties and other social events to promote this type of dancing.
