Basketball shooting games in PE are designed to improve your jump shot as well as your overall shooting accuracy. They range from HORSE to 21. While many novice basketball players can develop their shots in full-court basketball games, individual shooting games are designed to focus in on shots from different points on the court.
HORSE
This shooting game is designed to help improve your shooting touch and accuracy from many points on the basketball court. Grab a few friends and choose one to start the game. Player one can shoot from anywhere on the court. If he makes his first shot, player two must repeat his shot using the same stance and from the same point on the court. If player one misses, player two is free to shoot from any place on the court. Any time a player misses a shot that is imitating the prior shooters shot, he is given a letter. After five letters, you are eliminated from the game. The last player left in the game wins.
Knockout
This basketball game can be played in your PE class with a group of kids and two basketballs. Have your class get in a straight line at the foul line and hand the first two players basketballs. On your whistle, have the first player shoot a foul shot. If she makes it, she must retrieve the ball and pass it to the third player in line. If she misses, she must get the ball and put it in the hoop before the second player scores. As soon as the first player's ball hits the rim, player two can attempt a shot on the hoop. Continue in this pattern until only one player is still in the game.
21 Basketball
This basketball game will improve your shooting from the inside and outside portions of the basketball court. Grab two or more classmates and shoot three pointers to see who gets the ball first. The first player to make a three gets possession. From here, the first player must attempt a shot on the hoop while being guarded by all of the other players in the game. The shot can be from anywhere on the court and, if made, the player gets two points. If the shot is missed, the player that gets the rebound must dribble the ball to the top of the key before he can attempt a shot. First player to 21 points or more wins.
Free Throw Game
This game will improve your accuracy at the foul line. Grab a classmate or several classmates and line up at the foul line. Have each player in the game take 10 shots at the basket from the foul line. The player with the lowest amount of made shots after the first round is eliminated. Continue in this manner, eliminating the lowest score from each round until only one player is left. If there is more than one player with the lowest score, then they must shoot against each other in a playoff round to determine which player moves on.
