Hybrid bikes are perfect for commuters or for those who want a versatile bike for touring various terrain across the country. Typically blending mountain and road bike qualities, hybrids offer a variety of gears to help you summit tough climbs and sleek, aerodynamic designs to increase your speed on flat stretches of road.

Boardman Hybrid Pro

For a bike that supports you on a fast commute, winter training miles or a cyclo-cross race, the Boardman Hybrid Pro is an excellent choice. Professional reviewers from BikeRadar gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars, while consumers awarded it 5 out of 5 thumbs up. Weighing about 20 lbs., its mix of mountain bike and road components increases your control and keeps the bike relatively light. The long, low and aggressive positioning of the frame sets you up to race for the traffic light or in a grand prix. One of its only drawbacks is its size; this bike does not accommodate extra large or extra small riders.

Giant Rapid 3

For a "good value, fast, versatile" bike that is "loads of fun," Giant's Rapid 3 gets the job done, according to BikeRadar. The bike comes with drilled eyelets to support a rack for shopping, and plenty of clearance in the frame and fork for mudguards or fatter tires. Reviewers found the bike has little flex, allowing your power to transfer efficiently, resulting in a faster ride. Its combination of 24 gears for steep grades and aerodynamic body gives you the versatility of a mountain bike with the speed of a road bike. BikeRadar's verdict was a solid 4 out of 5 stars, while users chose to award the bike 5 out of 5 thumbs up.

Ridgeback Flight 05

The Ridgeback Flight 05 is a responsive, fast bike suited for commuting and touring. Although novice riders may find its handling slightly intimidating, the Flight 05 has a light fork that leaves plenty of room for changing to fatter tires and on-target steering and handling that help you maneuver through traffic with ease. The frame puts you in a lower position, however, potentially causing wrist fatigue over long rides. According to BikeRadar's user reviews, this bike earns an average of 5 out of 5 thumbs up.

Raleigh Pioneer Elite 2

In contrast to the Flight 05, the Raleigh Pioneer Elite is a relaxing commuter bike, even for beginner riders. An all-aluminum frame and spot-on geometry give you superior handling with a comfortable, upright riding position. The bike provides all the fittings needed to add mudguards, bottle cages and panniers, and its gears promise you can tackle even the steepest of grades. The only con found by reviewers was that the rigid fork and handlebars transmit all vibrations to your hands, making bumpy paths slightly uncomfortable. Overall, the bike earned an average of 5 out of 5 thumbs up from users on BikeRadar.
