Lavender is an aromatic, low-growing shrub that is a species of mint and native to the Mediterranean. According to Phyllis Balch, author of "Prescription for Herbal Healing: An Easy-To-Use A-Z Reference to Hundreds of Common Disorders and Their Herbal Remedies," herbalists have used lavender as a tonic, sedative, digestive aid, gas remedy and antispasmodic. Lavender also contains two compounds, linalool and linalyl aldehyde, which relieve headaches by increasing the body's threshold for pain and thereby stopping the perception of pain. A simple way to relieve headaches is by drinking some lavender tea at the first sign of a headache.
Step 1
Pour 8 oz. of water into a small pot. Bring the water to a boil.
Step 2
Remove the water from the stove and add 3 tsp. of dried lavender. Cover the pot and let the tea steep for 10 minutes.
Step 3
Pour the tea through a strainer and into a tea cup. Add 2 tbsp. of honey and 1 tbsp. of lemon juice to taste.
Step 4
Prepare and drink the lavender tea at the onset of a headache or throughout the day for headache pain prevention.
