The answer to the question "Am I pregnant?" is often crucial in a woman's life. With pregnancy comes the need for special care and possible lifestyle changes. If you are pregnant, remember that everything you do -- including eating, drinking and breathing -- is passed on to your baby, so detecting a pregnancy early on can help prevent complications and increase the likelihood of giving birth to healthy, happy baby.

Step 1

Keep track of your menstrual cycles. A missed, late or light period can be an indicator of pregnancy.

Step 2

Pay close attention for any unusual bleeding. You may experience light bleeding as the result of the embryo attaching itself to your uterus. This normally occurs about one to two weeks after you have become pregnant.

Step 3

Note if you're using the bathroom more frequently. Frequent urination is a sign of pregnancy. This normally occurs around the two-month point of your pregnancy.

Step 4

Notice changes in your breasts. Many women who become pregnant experience swollen breasts that are sore the touch. This occurs at about two weeks into your pregnancy.

Step 5

Note unusual feelings of fatigue or nausea in the morning. This normally occurs four weeks into your pregnancy.

Step 6

Purchase an over-the-counter pregnancy test. If you are experiencing multiple symptoms, a pregnancy test can confirm a pregnancy with some accuracy.

Step 7

Consult with your physician. Your physician can order a blood or urine test that will definitively confirm your pregnancy. Your physician can also help you get the appropriate prenatal care or recommend the name of an obstetrician.
