The Trek Bicycle Corporation specializes in road and mountain bikes. Trek released its first model in the mid-1970s. Trek offers hardtail mountain bikes as well as the full-suspension design. There are sizing guides to help you find the right Trek mountain bike.
Top Tube
The top tube refers to the component of the mountain bike frame that runs between the headset and the seat post. Trek offers the top tube in various lengths to allow you a custom fit. According to Trek, the smallest top tube available on the hardtail mountain bike has a length of 13 inches. The largest hardtail mountain bike frame features a 21.5-inch top tube. If you require a longer top tube, consider out one of Trek's full-suspension models.
Cassette
The cassette is the circular component of the mountain bike found in the center of the rear wheel. Most mountain bike models feature a multispeed cassette to allow you to adapt to the varying gradient of off-road trails and courses. According to Trek, the company equips its hardtail mountain bikes with either an eight- or 10-speed cassette. Trek's full-suspension bikes have been outfitted with a nine- or 10-speed cassette.
Tires
Trek equips its hardtail mountain bicycles with a standard-size tire. The diameter of the hardtail mountain bike tires is 26 inches. The width of the tires range between 2 and 2.5 inches. The tires of the full-suspension models feature a slightly larger diameter for dirt jumps. Many of the full-suspension mountain bikes from Trek have tires with a 29-inch diameter.
Geometry
The geometry of the mountain bike refers to the angle of the various components. The size of the angle varies, depending on the discipline of mountain bike riding. The seat of the hardtail mountain bikes from Trek have an angle of about 70 degrees. The angled seat allows you to maintain a balanced riding stance while navigating down steep trails. Trek models that have a smaller seat angle remain ideal for level mountain biking trails.
