Quick baseball hand drills focus on your hand speed in the field as well as at bat. Baseball hand drills are designed to improve your chances of making contact with a fast pitch, and they should help your coordination and form at the plate.

Top Hand

This batting drill is designed to improve the speed of your top hand while at bat. Grab a bat with your top hand and hold it at the top of the grip. From this position, get into your regular batting stance and place your bottom hand under your armpit for additional support. Have a partner get down on one knee and lob underhand pitches. As the pitch comes in, swing down on the ball with your top hand to hit it into the ground. Repeat until fatigued.

Quick Hands Ball Drop

The drill is designed to improve your hand speed at the plate. Get into your normal batting stance directly in front of a net or hitting cage. Have another player stand with a ball in hand just in front of you. Make sure your partner is far enough away so he does not get hit by your swing. Have your partner start by standing on a chair and dropping a pitch from above his head into your strike zone. As soon as you can see the pitch, bring your hands through the zone and hit the pitch. As you improve, the pitcher can come down off the chair and drop the ball from a lower height, giving you less time to react.

Soft Hand

This drill can help improve your fielding form as well as your hand speed. Stand in a basic fielding stance at either shortstop or second base. Instead of wearing a normal glove, put on a soft hand training glove. Have a partner hit a series of balls at you. Try to field each one cleanly and quickly throw to first. The soft hand glove will force your hand into the right position to field the ball cleanly. Repeat until fatigued.

Up and In

This individual hitting drill will improve your hand speed and ability to hit a high and inside pitch. Place a batting tee on home plate and raise the tip so the top of it is in the same position as a high and inside pitch. Place a ball on the tee at this position and practice bringing your hands quickly through the zone to get around on the pitch and drive it. As you improve, have a friend throw batting practice to you, focusing on high and inside pitches.
