Bee pollen is collected from honeybees using a special screen placed over the hives to squeeze the pollen out of tiny sacs on the bees' legs. The pollen comes from flowers and is mixed with honey and stored in these sacs for the bees to bring back to the hive for food. The result is granular bee pollen, which may be eaten by humans for its nutrient value. While bee pollen is loaded with vitamins and minerals, some people may be allergic. You should consult with your doctor prior to taking bee pollen.
Step 1
Eat 1 to 2 tbsp. per day by simply putting it in your mouth and chewing it. Granular bee pollen has a slightly unusual taste, but it's not unpleasant. It is slightly chewy and can be eaten plain. Try taking a tablespoon in the morning and one at lunchtime. It provides a boost of energy for most people, so taking it at night might keep you awake.
Step 2
Sprinkle 1 to 2 tbsp. of granular bee pollen over your morning cereal or oatmeal, or try adding it to a yogurt parfait. This method works well for people who don't particularly like eating bee pollen plain.
Step 3
Add 1 to 2 tbsp. of bee pollen to a smoothie. You can blend it with your favorite smoothie ingredients and drank it as a breakfast shake, or as a snack any time of day. The flavor of the bee pollen is very subtle and will not overpower the other ingredients in your smoothie.
