1. Daily Conditioning for Beautiful Locks
There are many varieties of standard conditioners which help to hold the moisture in your hair in order to protect its natural oils. Standard conditioners are the best choice for non-damaged and non-chemically treated hair and can be used daily. Moisturizers are traditional conditioners which are applied to the hair after your regular shampoo and can be used alone or with leave in conditioners or glossers. Leave in conditioners and glossers will help to add shine and bounce to your hair and will help to hold in moisture throughout the day.
2. Undoing the Damage
Daily washing, exposure to the sun, styling and chemical treatments can wreak havoc on your hair. Fortunately there are a number of conditioners which are made to help restore damaged hair. Leave-in treatments can be used once or twice a week and often contain keratin, protein and natural oils that help to smooth split ends and restore moisture. Reconstructors also contain keratin and protein; however, they are designed to be used daily in place or your standard conditioner. Balancers or acidifiers help to restore the Ph balance of the hair, closing the cuticles and calming frizz due to damage. These products are often used 2 or 3 times a week and left in the hair for 5 to 10 minutes.
3. Leave it In
Protect your hair before the damage begins by using leave-in conditioners with added elements. Choose a leave-in conditioner with UV protection if you spend long hours outdoors. You can also apply thermo sprays to your hair before styling with irons or blow dryers to protect your locks from heat damage. Leave in conditioners with detanglers are also a great way to prevent excessive stretching and breaking of your hair while combing and styling.
4. Hair Care Essentials
Essential fatty acids mimic the natural sebum, or oils of your hair, making them the perfect natural conditioners. Essential fatty acids are found in natural vegetables oils, such as avocado, jojoba, olive and coconut oils and can be massaged into the scalp and hair to calm porous hair and make it soft and silky.
5. Putting it all Together
When conditioning hair, always apply your chosen product to damp, but not dripping, hair to promote absorption. For best results, even wash-out conditioners should be left in your hair for a few minutes. Try to use lukewarm or cold water when washing and conditioning hair, as hot water will quickly strip your locks of their natural protective oils.
