The Hershey Company, which makes Hershey's Kisses, has broadened its Kisses line to include seasonal Kisses in different flavors. Hershey's has also added HUGS, white chocolate Kisses with milk chocolate stripes, to its line. While certainly not nutritious as a meal replacement, HUGS have the benefit of being available as a single candy, so you can sneak in a quick chocolate pick-me-up without adding too many calories.
Calories
A serving size of Hershey's HUGS equals 210 calories, with 110 of the calories coming from fat. A serving equals nine Kisses, according to the Hershey's website. Each Kiss contains approximately 23 calories. If you consume an average 2,000 calories per day diet, one serving of Hershey's HUGS supplies just over 10 percent of your daily calorie allowance.
Carbohydrates
One serving of HUGS supplies 8 percent of your daily carbohydrate allowance based on a 2,000 calories per day diet, or 24 g of carbohydrates. Since 1 g of carbohydrates equals 4 calories, a serving supplies 96 calories. Nearly half the calories in a HUGS comes from carbohydrates. Carbohydrate sources listed on the ingredients label include sugar and lactose in the white and milk chocolate. Lactose is a milk sugar. Most of the carbohydrates in this product, 21 g, come from simple sugars. Simple sugars may promote not only weight gain but also heart disease and diabetes, warns the Harvard School of Public Health. The rest of the carbohydrates most likely come from milk and cocoa butter.
Fats
More than half the calories in a Hershey's HUGS come from fat. A serving of this candy supplies 18 percent of your daily calorie fat intake based on the 2,000 calories per day diet. One serving also equals 35 percent of your daily allowance of saturated fat, the type of fat most responsible for increasing your risk of heart disease by increasing cholesterol levels. One serving lists no trans fats, the worst type of saturated fat, according to the American Heart Association. Each serving also contains 10 mg of cholesterol, out of a daily recommended allowance of 300 mg, or 3 percent. Because the body makes all the cholesterol you need, dietary cholesterol is not necessary and should be limited to fewer than 200 mg in people with heart disease, the AHA states. Fat sources in HUGS include milk fat, chocolate and cocoa butter.
Protein
A serving of HUGS supplies 3 g of protein, a negligible amount of your daily protein allowance, according to the nutritional label. Milk is the most likely source of protein in a Hershey's HUGS.
