Livestrong is a non-profit organization founded and inspired by Lance Armstrong, the seven-time winner of the Tour de France. The organization has a line of in-home fitness products, including elliptical machines, treadmills and exercise bikes, which are manufactured by Johnson Health Tech. The Livestrong exercise bike product line includes both recumbent and upright-style bikes. These are well-built machines with standard features that have a stylish, sporty look.
Design
Matching the famous yellow lead shirt of the Tour de France and the official color of the Livestrong organization, Livestrong exercise bikes are a stylish-looking black with yellow accents. The seats are road-style saddles with both vertical and horizontal adjustments. The recumbent bike offers lumbar support, which is standard with this style of bike. The seat adjusts horizontally to accommodate users of different heights.
Specifications
The upright bikes by Livestrong have 40 pound flywheels. Heavier flywheels provide a smoother pedaling motion. Other bikes in the same price range have similar flywheel weights, typically about 43 pounds. The upright bikes have a maximum user weight of 290 pounds; the recumbent bike has a maximum user weight of 300 pounds. The cantilevered brakes on the give you the ability to slow down quickly with control.
Features
The handlebars on the bikes are vertically adjustable. This is a standard feature of most stationary bikes. The seats are filled with air to give you a comfortable riding experience. The recumbent bike has 20 levels of digitally adjustable resistance. This amount of resistance options should provide most users with enough intensity. Contact grips on the sides of the seat allow you to check your heart rate at any time during your workout. The recumbent bike also has built-in speakers. Plug your MP3 into the machine and listen to your tunes for motivation while you work out.
Console
The console on the Livestrong upright bikes tracks your revolutions per minute, distance and approximate calories burned. A DVD is included. Set the bike in front of your TV and complete any of the 54 workouts. The console on the recumbent bike includes speakers with MP3 compatibility and a fan to keep you cool during your workout. The display windows show elapsed time, distance, speed, calories and heart rate. Choose from 11 built-in workout profiles. The bike prompts you to adjust your resistance and pedal speed to vary the intensity of your workout.
Donation
In January 2011, the Livestrong website features the Livestrong Limited Edition LS218IC indoor cycle. It sells for $1,699. However, $1,000 of your payment goes to the Livestrong Foundation, which, according to the website, helps improve the lives of people affected by cancer. Limited quantities of this model are available.
