According to the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals, a trade group of massage therapists, massage therapy has a number of positive benefits to the recipient's health and mental well-being. Massage can decrease stress levels, increase the immune response, increase flexibility and decrease levels of pain. Foot massage comes with all of these benefits, and can be particularly relaxing to those who spend an excess amount of time on their feet. There are a number of electronic at-home foot massagers that you can use when you can't make it to a massage therapist for treatment.
OSIM iSqueez
This foot and calf massager works the foot and the lower leg. Using a combination of kneading, vibration and squeezing, the massage unit stimulates the lower legs and the feet. The base of the massage unit contains pressure point stimulators that correspond to sore and sensitive areas on the bottom of the feet. It's on the bigger side of foot massage units, so it's not good to use at your desk or outside your home. The customizable settings allow you to control the strength of the massage. Although it is expensive, retailing for over $300 a unit, this massager penetrates deeply and is very relaxing.
AccuHealth Acu-Point Therapy Foot Massager
Acupuncture focuses on pressure points throughout the body, including the foot. These points are stimulated to restore proper energy flow throughout the body. Less expensive than the iSqueez (around $230), the Acu-Point Therapy Foot Massager focuses on the stimulation of these pressure points. The airbags contained within the unit stimulate the foot, while heated air and infrared lights enhance blood circulation. The strategically placed nubs on the floor of this massager work the points of your foot while it is contained in the unit.
Therapeutic Teak Rolling Massager
This unit is simple but effective. Made of wood, this massager lets you work your feet on therapeutic rolling bars with stress-relieving points. It's not electronic, and it's smaller than the other two, so it's a good choice if you want to use something at work. There are units available that are big enough for both feet. You place your foot on the center of the unit and roll it back and forth for a soothing effect.
