Vegan Fruit Pizza

Vegans exclude meat, poultry, seafood, dairy and eggs from their diet. Pizza ingredients typically consist of most of the foods on the exempt list. With a little creativity and effort, you can either make your own vegan fruit pizza or buy the base vegan frozen pizza to customize your own.

Pineapple and "Ham" Pizza

Mix savory and sweet flavors as you would with a ham and pineapple pizza, except do it vegan style. Top a frozen vegan cheese pizza with vegan versions of ham deli slices found at health food stores. Vegan cheese pizzas use soy cheese or other dairy alternatives, such as almond cheese. All you have to do is put either canned or fresh pineapple chunks on it.

Dessert Pizza

Buy a vegan graham cracker crust. Blend strawberries, raspberries or other red berries to make the red sauce, and add organic agave syrup or maple syrup to further sweeten it. For decoration, cut fruit to look like pepperoni or top the pizza with pieces of marzipan, which is a sweet, firm, white almond paste that could resemble cheese. For a more simple version of the dessert, add layers of your favorite fruit slices. Keep the pizza raw to take advantage of all of its vitamins.

Health Advantages

According to the American Dietetic Association, vegan diets help reduce the risk of heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes and cancer. Vegan pizzas are far lower in saturated fat and cholesterol than average pizzas because they do not contain meat, cheese, or eggs in the crust. Plus, fruit pizzas, especially when eaten with raw fruits, offer a variety of vitamins and dietary fiber.

Transitioning Kids and Teens to a Vegan Diet

Vegan fruit pizzas can help show children that eating vegan can be delicious and exciting. According to the American Heart Association, one-third of American children are overweight or obese and at high risk for the illnesses that a vegan diet can help prevent.
