How to Figure the Stride Length for a Pedometer

A pedometer is a must have for the serious walker or runner; it can tell you in an instant how much distance you've covered. According to North Dakota State University, higher end models may have features that track time, speed and calories burned, and can make goal setting much easier to achieve when you're trying to add distance or cut your overall exercise time. To personalize a pedometer for your individual walking habits, most pedometers have a setting for you to enter the length of your stride in order for the machine to determine the exact distance covered.

Tips and Warnings

  • Some pedometers require you to enter step length instead of stride length.
