Like menopause, perimenopause is a time when a woman's hormones change and she sometimes experiences physical symptoms and emotional upheavals that may be uncomfortable and unwanted. Homeopathy may offer relief for a variety of conditions developed during this time in a woman's life. Homeopathy works to stimulate an internal or emotional response to an external stimulus, allowing the person to heal herself.
Pulsatilla
Pulsatilla may be indicated for women who experience mood swings and anxiety during perimenopause, making them clingy and needing constant support, comfort and reassurance, notes the University of Michigan Health Services. The remedy works well for women who become very warm and feel better in open, cool air. Sometimes being in a warm, stuffy room increases their anxiety, and the remedy may offer relief. In addition, the remedy may be helpful in relieving anxiety and other emotional symptoms during menstruation.
Lachesis
Lachesis may offer relief to women who experience hot flashes and night sweats during perimenopause, notes the University of Maryland Medical Center. The remedy may offer relief from irritability and other deep emotional states such as depression and sadness. In addition, Lachesis may help to relieve insomnia during this time in a woman's life, writes Dr. William Boericke in the "Materia Medica and Repertory."
Sepia
Sepia is indicated for women who feel utterly worn out during perimenopause. The University of Maryland Medical Center notes that during perimenopaus, women may become depressed and develop an aversion to being with loved ones, lose interest in their work, experience hot flashes and vaginal dryness as well as vaginal irritation during intercourse. The women needing Sepia often feel chilly, weak, moody and have low energy levels.
Lycopodium
Lycopodium is indicated for women who develop bloating and flatulence during perimenopause, the University of Maryland Medical Center. They may experience pain during intercourse. The remedy should help reduce irritability and increase the woman's sense of self-esteem and confidence.
Calcarea Phosphorica
Calcarea phosphorica is indicated for women at high risk of developing osteaporosis, writes Boericke. This remedy may help increase bone density, adds UMMC. It is indicated for women who tend toward flabbiness of the tissues and experience cold extremities with a sensation of numbness in hands and feet, adds Boericke.
Other Considerations
If you would like to use homeopathic medicine to relieve your perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms, it is recommended that you find a qualified homeopath who will prescribe the best remedy for your condition. Many homeopathic remedies are available without a prescription over-the-counter in health food stores and from online pharmacies.
