High levels of sugar in the blood (hyperglycemia) may be the result of diabetes, stress, a sedentary lifestyle or an unhealthy diet. If you experience frequent urination and fatigue or if you're thirstier than usual; your blood sugar could be higher than normal. Determining the underlying cause of chronic high blood sugar is imperative but if you suffer from an occasional bout of increased glucose in your blood, you may be able to reduce it with a few diet and lifestyle changes.
Tips and Warnings
- Switch your sugary carbonated sodas for the sugar-free variety. Protein digests slower and may decrease blood sugar spikes.
- Visit with your doctor if you experience high blood sugar and you're diabetic. Prolonged hyperglycemia can lead to organ damage.
