McAllister's Deli had its humble start in Oxford, Mississippi in 1989. Serving a variety of pizzas, salads, soups, chilies and, of course, sandwiches, it's a family restaurant rated No. 10 in Parents Magazine's top 10 fast-casual restaurants of 2009. McAlister's also provides a variety of nutritional values including low-fat, low-carb and gluten-free items.

Special Diet

If you're on a special diet, such as a high fiber one, you have plenty of choices. The veggie sandwich contains 16 g of fiber. A cup of chili with meat or a bowl of veggie chili contain 17 g, and both a cup and bowl of veggie chili contains 17 g of fiber. Low-calorie selections include three salads under 500 calories. The Greek salad with chicken has 485, and 247 without. Bread bowls with either chicken or tortilla soup have 334 calories, while ones with chili have just 2 additional calories.

Sandwiches

A deli isn't a deli without sandwiches -- and McAlister's has several from which you can choose. The McAlister's Club tips the scales with 1029 calories, 56 g of fat -- of which 16 g are saturated -- 3143 mg of sodium and 79 g of carbs. On the lighter side of the menu, a French Dip Sandwich contains 433 calories, 15 g of fat -- of which 8 are saturated -- 1315 mg of sodium and 43 g of carbs.

Side Items

Any great meal needs a side dish, and you can find one with the nutritional value you want at McAlister's. Fruit salad has only 100 calories, 24 g of carbs and 22 g of sugar. The Spud Max, however, has 759 calories, 31 g of fat -- of which 16 are saturated -- 1883 mg of sodium and 34 g of carbs. Kids Menu

You can't have a kid's night without a kids menu, which is offered daily at McAlister's. A kid's portion is half the size of a regular item; for example, if your little one wants a turkey melt, he gets one-half a sandwich -- which also cuts the nutrition in half from 563 calories to 281 calories. If he's in the mood for mac and cheese, the child serving contains 302 calories, 16 g of fat -- of which 5 are saturated -- 714 ms of sodium and 28 g of carbs. There's also the peanut butter and jelly sandwich, which has 687 calories, 31 g of fat -- of which 5 are saturated -- 626 mg of sodium and 85 g of carbs.
