If you have only a limited time to work out, get the most bang for your buck that you can. Choose activities that burn the most calories in a limited amount of time to make your workout really count. By burning more calories, you'll lose more weight. Consult a doctor before adding new exercises to your workout routine, particularly if you have a health condition.
Rollerblading
Rollerblading, also known as inline skating, is a full-body workout that helps improve your balance and tone your legs and butt. Depending on your weight, the speed you skate and the incline you're skating, you may burn between 913 and 1,360 calories per hour, according to MayoClinic.com. Skate outside in nice weather or go inside a local roller skating rink when it's raining or snowing.
Running
If you run at a speed of eight miles an hour for one hour, you will burn significant calories. A 160-pound adult burns approximately 986 calories, a 200-pound adult burns about 1,229 calories and a 240-pound adult burns about 1,472 calories, notes MayoClinic.com. If you are unable to run the entire time, walk. Every five minutes, add in a minute of running. If you take 10 running breaks throughout the hour, you'll burn a total of 400 calories, according to "Shape" magazine.
Jump Roping
Jumping rope tones the muscles in your arms, legs and core while burning calories. Jumping rope for one hour burns 730 calories if you weigh 160 pounds, 910 calories if you weigh 200 pounds and 1,090 calories if you weigh 240 pounds, notes MayoClinic.com. If the repetitive motion of jump roping bores you, turn on your favorite song and jump along to the music.
Elliptical Training
If you'd rather hit the gym than run outside, head for the elliptical machine. Depending on your weight and the resistance level you set the machine, you can burn about 575 calories an hour, according to "Fitness" magazine. To switch up your routine, try going backward, using just your arms to move the rest of your body and pedaling only with your legs.
