Excel Sports and Physical Therapy is a clinic with eight locations throughout Missouri. The clinic's physical therapists and athletic trainers combine physical therapy services with overall health education and sport-specific conditioning. Established in 1998, Excel Sports and Physical Therapy has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, as of January 2011.

Physical Therapy

The Excel clinic's physical therapy program merges massage, postural alignment and body mechanics with ice and heat therapy, ultrasound and electrical stimulation. The clinic also has three certified hand therapists, who treat patients with sports-related hand injuries, repetitive strain injuries, arthritis, burns and other hand wounds. The hand therapists teach exercises to regain hand strength and mobility, as well as sensory re-education exercises for patients with nerve damage. Scar management, wound care and dressing changes are included for burn victims.

Athletic Enhancement

The Excel Sports and Physical Therapy center's athletic enhancement facility is located in St. Charles, Missouri. Its staff of athletic trainers specialize in field sports, golf, hockey, gymnastics and martial arts. The Elite Enhancement program is geared toward athletes age 14 and over, and the All-Stars program is for 11- to 13-year-old players. Athletic training sessions include injury prevention, plyometric exercise, core stability training, strength and power development, and flexibility exercise.

Athletic Training

The certified athletic trainers at Excel Sports and Physical Therapy provide services to local teams and schools. An athletic trainer is on hand to treat sprained ankles, asthma attacks, bumps, bruises and spinal injuries. When necessary, the trainers refer these athletes to the appropriate medical personnel.

Health Services

The clinic's therapists designed the Excel Health Program for patients suffering from diabetes, hypertension, obesity or deconditioning due to prolonged hospitalization. The program, covered under most insurance plans, combines nutritional advice with strength, flexibility, core and aerobic exercise.

Continuing Education

Excel Sports and Physical Therapy provides continuing education courses for trainers with American Council on Exercise certification. The course, titled "Purposeful Program Design," teaches trainers how to create exercise programs that treat the body as an integrated unit, as opposed to a series of isolated muscles. Trainers earn 0.3 continuing-education units for the course.
