Natural Golf has risen in popularity over the recent years as golfers look for simple fixes to their complicated golf swing problems. Natural Golf provides a technical analysis of the swing, then simplifies that for teaching methods that apply to a variety of golfers. Beginning and intermediate golfers, as well as advanced amateurs, have taken to Natural Golf as a proven game improvement technique.

History

Widely regarded as the most proficient ball striker of his era, Natural Golf was pioneered by Moe Norman, the great Canadian touring professional and PGA Tour tournament winner. Norman was a big proponent of the single swing plane and focused on working his entire body together to swing on one plane. Norman advised golfers that the golf swing perfected was only possible through robots; he then sought to implement those fundamentals into an easy, repeatable golf motion.

Natural Hold

The first step in learning the Natural Golf swing is developing the natural hold motion through impact. The technique avers that if you can hold a hammer, than you can learn this motion rather easily. This step focuses on hitting the golf ball with a flat left wrist, and learning to move the club through impact without cupping the wrist. This provides the greatest chance to compress the golf ball into the ground, which results in a longer, straighter shots.

Single Plane Setup

The second lesson from the Natural Golf teachings is the single plane setup. Some golfers are talented enough to swing on one plane, stabilizing their swing so the motion doesn't take them all over the place. Golfers that swing on two or even three planes are not very consistent. Natural Golf promotes a very upright stance to allow the golfer to swing away from the target on the takeaway and towards the target on the follow-through -- all on the same path.

Using Leverage to Drive the Ball

Natural Golf encourages a powerful move through the hitting area as the swing approaches the golf ball. The premise of Natural Golf is to use leverage created by the big muscles and the lag in your swing to drive the golf ball towards the target. Instead of using shoulders, arms, and little muscles, the Natural Golf swing allows the golfer to stay balanced and explode through impact for more consistent contact and greater distance. This swing, for the average player, is a much more repeatable motion.
