Heckler and Koch produce a premier brand of firearms for the law enforcement, military, sporting and commercial markets. One of Heckler and Koch's most recent additions to their line of handguns is the P2000. Designed as a truly ambidextrous weapon capable of fitting a number of different sized hands, the P2000 is a refinement of a design made for several European police agencies.

Specifications

The P2000 was design to succeed in tactical applications. Overall it is 7 inches long and 5.04 inches high, with only 3.66 inches of the length dedicated to the barrel. Without the magazine inserted, this pistol it weighs 1.5 lbs. A standard or concealed magazine is available for this weapon. The Hechler and Koch P2000 uses a three dot sight system and offers the user a 5.59 inch sight radius.

Special Features

The P2000 is available in a single action/double action trigger mode, in which the act of firing the weapon loads the next round into the chamber and automatically cocks the weapon. The Law Enforcement Modification trigger system reduces the force needed to pull the trigger from the traditional 12 to 15 lbs to 6.18 to 8.5 lbs. This weapon also offers the user ambidextrous controls -- the slide release and magazine release can be operated with the right or left hand. The P2000 also comes with an adjustable back strap so that the gun can be custom fitted to your hand size.

Caliber

The Heckler and Koch P2000 is available in three different calibers: 9x19 mm parabellum, .40 S & W and .357 Sig. The 9x19 mm parabellum model P2000's magazine holds 10 rounds in the shortened clip and 13 rounds in the regular length clip. The .40 S & W and .357 Sig model P2000's magazine holds nine rounds in the shortened clip and 12 rounds in the full length version.

Variations

All of the P2000 variations address cocking and trigger pull features of this weapon. The original version of this weapon is available with a safety trigger, concealed cocking piece in the hammer and centrally located decocking lever. P2000 V2 reduced the trigger pull to 7.3 lbs. A conventional double action/single action trigger and hammer with decocking were modifications in the V3 model. The V4 further reduced trigger pull to 6.18 lbs. The P2000 V5 comes with a double action only trigger that is approximately 7.87 lbs.
