How to do the Green Tea Diet

Green tea (Camellia sinensis), a perennial shrub, found favor in China as long ago as 5,000 years. Catechin polyphenols, the active ingredient in green tea, may be instrumental in speeding the rate of fat oxidation. A 2008 study, published in the American Journal of Nutrition, indicates that consumption of green tea may result in increased metabolism and reduced fat absorption. While adding green tea to your diet may enhance weight loss, it is only one part of a healthy diet and exercise plan.

Tips and Warnings

  • Make green tea part of a healthy diet that includes regular exercise and good nutrition. By itself, green tea will not overcome unhealthy eating habits.
  • Consult your physician before embarking on any new diet.
