They advise that you consume a sugar-containing food if you experience this. Other ways to increase blood sugar levels include through vitamins, supplements, and medications. You should be cautious of substances that increase blood sugar, however, because this can lead to dangerously high levels. High levels may trigger or contribute to diabetic symptoms.

Vitamin B-3

Vitamin B-3 is an important mineral that plays a role in healthy cell metabolism, nervous system function, and maintenance of your hair, skin, and liver. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, vitamin B-3 can increase your blood sugar levels. This can lead to hyperglycemia, or high blood sugar, that can be dangerous if you have diabetes. The University of Maryland Medical Center advises that if you have diabetes, you should take vitamin B-3 or only the direction and care of a doctor. In addition to a supplement, you can obtain vitamin B-3 in foods such as lean meats, fish, poultry, dairy products, eggs and nuts.

Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplements

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fats that your body does not produce. These fats play an important role in growth and development, and in maintaining normal brain function. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, these supplements can raise your blood sugar levels. As a result, you may require blood sugar lowering medications. Check with your doctor to ensure these supplements are right for you and not interacting negatively with other medications.

Glucagon And Other Medications

According to MedlinePlus, glucagon is a drug that is used to raise your blood sugar levels. Glucagon triggers your liver to release blood sugar into your blood. Other drugs that can increase your blood sugar include corticosteroids, epinephrine, estrogens, lithium, and tricyclic antidepressants. You may need to check with your doctor to make sure these medications are not affecting your blood sugar levels.
