Just about everyone experiences some twinges of anxiety from time to time, due to normal stressors at home or at work. But for some people, anxiety is a condition that can disrupt daily life. Whether it arises from a meeting, a job, your health condition or social situation, a diagnosis of anxiety is the first step in managing it.
Step 1
Monitor your thoughts for excessive feelings of worry about any aspect of your life such as your job, relationship or financial situation. Excessive feelings refer to feeling anxiety that disrupts your daily life or prohibits you from carrying out regular daily tasks.
Step 2
Notice if you have irrational fears of everyday things like squirrels or stairwells. Feeling anxiety about things that pose no real threat may indicate something more serious than general anxiety, like a phobia.
Step 3
Pay attention for typical symptoms of anxiety like a racing heartbeat, sweaty palms, diarrhea, palpitations or a dry mouth. You may also fear doing something inappropriate in social situations, feel a sense of dread at the thought of being in a crowd or experience crippling self-consciousness when around other people.
Step 4
Visit your doctor if you experience any of the signs of anxiety that are disturbing your daily life. Do not suffer alone if you do not have to.
