The Side Effects of Celexa

Celexa is the brand name of an antidepressant medication made of citalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Drugs.com explains that Celexa works by balancing the levels of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin occurs naturally in the brain and regulates moods and feelings. By attaining chemical balance, the antidepressant can improve mood problems or disorders. Most often, Celexa is prescribed for the treatment of depression. Mild Side Effects

Some individuals who use Celexa may not experience any side effects, but others may notice a few mild changes immediately after beginning the medication or well into the treatment period. Harmless reactions to the medication, according to Drugs.com, may include drowsiness, insomnia, mild nausea, bloating, upset stomach, weight changes, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction and difficulty achieving orgasm. Celexa may cause an allergic reaction in individuals who are sensitive to the ingredients.
