Becoming a kundalini yoga teacher requires training and practice, and there are many aspects to consider before you enroll in an educational program. Kundalini yoga involves not only the physical movements and breathing aspects of yoga, but it also has a strong spiritual component, which requires practitioners to engage in meditation and chanting. As a teacher, you will need to feel comfortable instructing students in each of these areas as you guide them through their practice. Determine the type of school you want to attend and research them, and you will be on your way to becoming a Kundalini teacher.

Step 1

Talk to any Kundalini yoga teachers you know or whose classes you have taken and enjoyed. Ask them where they studied and got their certification, what their experience was like and if they have any suggestions for your training. You may even want to sit in on some of their classes and observe their teaching methods, which could provide you with ideas for when you acquire your own class.

Step 2

Decide what kind of class schedule coincides best with your life. Some yoga teacher training programs are like traditional colleges, and they require their students to live on campus and attend classes during the day during an academic year. Others, however, accommodate various lifestyles and offer classes on nights and weekends or during intensive, week-long seminars. This may be a better option for you if you have a family, a job or do not wish to relocate.

Step 3

Find schools you are interested in, and then visit them and ask questions about their curriculum, teachers and certification. Determine if they offer training in Kundalini yoga and any other specialties you want to learn how to teach. Ask to speak to current students and teachers to get a feel for the school and whether it will be a fit for you.

Step 4

Enroll in a program and complete your certification hours. Most schools require you to complete 200 to 500 hours of training before you can graduate. You will most likely take classes on teaching methodologies, anatomy, physiology, technique and philosophy, though courses may vary depending on your program. Continue to attend Kundalini yoga classes while you are in school and sit on them as well.
