Your Body Mass Index. or BMI, number indicates what percentage of your total body mass is made up of fat. This measurement is often calculated with a simple formula that divides a person's weight by his height. However, certain scales can make a reasonably accurate determination of your body composition in another way. By sending a small electric current through the bottom of your feet, a BMI scale can establish your general physiological makeup.

The Omron HBF400

The Omron HBF400 Body Fat Scale has a number of built-in features that make managing your BMI a simple and straight-forward process. Body-fat content is shown clearly on a center screen and classified into one of four categories, noting what range of health your BMI reading indicates. The HBF 400 also contains a memory feature that allows you to store the personal measurements of up to four people. This data is kept private by the creation of a I.D. number for each separate profile.

The UC-321 Precision Personal Health Scale weighs within an accuracy of 0.1 pounds. It has a memory that automatically holds your last 31 readings, allowing you gauge your progress overtime. Each time you weigh, the UC-321 will calculate your body-fat percentage. You can program a weight and BMI goal into the system. Whenever you step on the scale, it will calculate how far you are from your mark and display this number in either pounds or kilograms.

Health O Meter BFM688-81 not only gauges your weight and BMI, but also calculates hydration levels within your body. The system can measure any individual weighing as much as 380 pounds and will keep personal profiles for up to four people. For each user, the BFM688-81 records all changes within the 12 most recent readings.

Weight Watchers WW78

The Weight Watchers WW78, by Conair, calculates weight, bone-density, hydration and body-fat. It displays weight of up to 400 pounds, within a 0.1 pound degree of accuracy. The scale turns on with a light "tap" of the foot and reveals its results on a 1.5 inch LCD screen.
