A pedometer is an accessory for people walk or run for exercise. You can also use a pedometer to evaluate how many calories you burn during leisurely activities like walking at home or at the office. Although these calories are fewer than the number you would burn during a good cardio workout, you can apply them to your weight loss plan. Using the pedometer, you can calculate how many calories you burned throughout the day.
Configure the Pedometer
Step 1
Hold the "Set" button for two seconds. Enter your weight using the "Mode" button. Once the weight is entered, press the "Set" button again.
Step 2
Measure your stride length using a tape measure. Place the tape measure on the floor and stand at the zero point. Take a step forward. Measure the length between the heel of your front foot and the heel of your back foot, which is on the zero point.
Step 3
Press the "Set" button again, and use the "Mode" button to set the length of your stride. Once you have entered this figure, press the "Set" button again.
Step 4
Attach the pedometer to your waistband and test the pedometer settings by taking a few steps. The pedometer should display a number corresponding with the number of steps you took.
Calculate Calories
Step 1
Take note of the number of steps you took at the end of the day.
Step 2
Calculate how many calories you burned during the day. It's estimated that every 2,000 steps equals a mile walked. Count every 2,000 steps as 100 calories burned.
Step 3
Use the number of calories to help plan meals and other exercise.
