The fitness industry actively embraced twenty-first century technology. That guy in the weight room, for example, who's staring at his iPhone or Blackberry, may not be waiting for a phone call. There's a good chance that he's downloaded his strength-training software on to his phone, and is following a technologically-designed workout.

Benefits

In the old pre-technology days, serious strength-training enthusiasts kept training logs, where they recorded the body parts worked, the sets, repetitions and weights used for each exercise. Some people added comments about what they ate, and how they felt during the workout. Training logs help you track your progress, and may even prevent over-training syndrome. Strength-training software takes the training log one step further, by adding analytical tools which track your blood pressure, body fat and nutritional needs.

Gym-Based Software

FitLinxx is an exercise software system that attaches to the weight-training equipment on the gym floor. Members log on to their program at the FitLinxx kiosk. As they go through their workout, the software tracks their correct seat height, sets, repetitions and workout speed. If your local gym is a member of the FitLinxx network, you can track your strength-training workout progress, even if you visit another gym enrolled in the network.

Team-Training Software

Coaches need to monitor their athlete's fitness level in order to determine their readiness for competition. Team-training software assigns a point system to each strength-training exercise. It then lists the team members according to their scores. The software also calculates the team average, so each athlete can see how she compares to the rest of the team.

Personal Training Software

Personal-training software packages come with fitness assessment tests, medical screening forms and exercise programing. Most of these software programs analyze the results of the assessment and screening tests, and help the trainer create tailored workouts using free weights, weight machines, elastic resistance and Pilates strength-training exercise. Advanced features include weight load, sets, movement tempo, repetitions and rest between sets.

Smart Phone Software

Fitness magazines, commercial gyms and gear manufacturers offer a selection of strength-training software programs for smart phones. Some are free of charge, and others have a nominal or high fee. These programs are compact and efficient, but they may take up a considerable amount of memory on your phone. Web-based strength training programs offer a solution. Create and store your program on your computer. Then, at the gym, log in on your smart phone and follow the workout.
