The Best Wiffle Ball Bats

Often seen as a child's game, wiffle ball provides a safer option for those who enjoy baseball, replacing baseball's wooden bat and hard ball with plastic alternatives. Yet many adults still enjoy playing wiffle ball, with the game allowing them to relive childhood glories. And whenever competition is involved, whether friendly or otherwise, players will always strive for an advantage. A good wiffle ball bat can make the difference between a flailing strikeout and a crisp line drive.

Moonshot - SpectraCarb SCX

Moonshot Bats take wiffle ball to the next level, using high-tech composite materials to craft bats well beyond the traditional yellow plastic sticks synonymous with the game. Moonshot's SpectraCarb SCX bat may be the best of the best, featuring a "Carbon Matrix" technology that weaves carbon fibers into a thin core and flexible outer shell. The SpectraCarb SCX comes in either 2.5-inch or 2.75-inch barrel diameters, with lengths from 34 to 36 inches. Available in a full range of colors from lime green to chocolate brown, the SpectraCarb SCX bats retail for approximately $160. They're serious bats for serious wiffle ball competitors.

Moonshot -- The STiK

For those who prefer the classic wiffle ball bat experience, Moonshot's The STiK captures the same look and feel of the skinny plastic yellow tubes but with a few dramatic differences. Moonshot designed the 1.625-inch diameter barrel with perfect weight distribution and crafted the end cap from clear injection molded polycarbonate for greater strength. The handle also features an Easton synthetic leather grip for improved control and comfort.

NJWA Superbat

The New Jersey Wiffle Ball Association produces its own bats, with the NJWA Superbat providing perhaps being the most powerful. The Superbat actually features a two-piece construction. The bat's wooden handle screws into a replaceable plastic barrel that is then secured with athletic tape. The bat's bright blue barrel has a 2.5-inch diameter, with the bats ranging from 34 to 38 inches in length. Retailing for approximately $25, the NJWA Superbat is a significant improvement over the traditional wiffle ball bat but far more affordable than the more professional models.

Ken Griffey Jr. Bat

Many old-school wiffle ball players swear by the Ken Griffey Jr. wiffle ball bat, which was a plastic replica of the former baseball superstar's game bat. Constructed like a traditional wiffle ball bat, the Ken Griffey Jr. model is simply a hollow piece of black plastic bearing the Louisville Slugger logo and Griffey's signature. Yet for whatever reason, wiffle ball players love the bat's feel and consistency, insisting it adds power to their swings. Louisville Slugger continues to make the bat, although it no longer carries Griffey's endorsement and signature.
