Salmon croquettes are made by combining cooked and flaked salmon flesh with bread crumbs, eggs, onions and seasoning to form a firm patty that is then pan fried until golden brown. A good source of protein that is low in saturated fat, salmon is also high in healthy omega-3 fatty acids which can help reduce the risk of heart disease.

Components

A single serving of one salmon croquette weighs around 120 g, according to the USDA. Proteins make up around 16 g of the serving, while fats provide just over 15 g and carbohydrates contribute 14 g. Water makes up approximately 71 g of the serving, and 1 g consists of dietary fiber. The remaining amount of the salmon croquette consists of indigestible matter and other nutrients.

Calories

A single salmon croquette contains approximately 265 calories, states the USDA. Around 140 calories come from fats, proteins provide 65 calories and carbohydrates contribute 60 calories per serving. The same serving provides just over 13 percent of the recommended daily intake of calories for the average adult based on a 2,000-calorie daily diet.

Vitamins

A serving of salmon croquette contains significant amounts of vitamins. The highest amounts of vitamins include vitamin D at 6.4 mg, or over 125 percent of the recommended daily intake, or RDI; vitamin B12 at 2.2 mcg, or nearly 100 percent of RDI; and niacin at 5.4 mg, or over 35 percent of RDI. Other vitamins in salmon croquettes include A, B6, C, E, K, thiamin and folate.

Minerals

A serving of salmon croquette also provides important dietary minerals. These include selenium at 32 mcg, or 58 percent of RDI, and phosphorus at 275 mg, or nearly 40 percent of RDI. Calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and potassium are also present in a serving.

Health Benefits

The salmon in salmon croquettes is high in heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. According to the Washington State Department of Health, omega-3 fatty acids can help to decrease the risk of heart disease, reduce blood pressure, prevent arthritis and improve brain function. According to Louisiana State University, salmon has between 0.4 to 1.8 g of omega-3s per 3-oz. serving.
