How to Juice Healthy Foods

It is important that you get enough fruits and vegetables every day. Not only do these foods provide important vitamins and minerals, but fruits and vegetables are also a good source of dietary fiber, which can help keep your cholesterol and blood glucose levels low. Juicing fruits and vegetables provides a way for you to get these important nutrients in liquid form, which can make them easier to consume. Most fruits and vegetables can be juiced, though you will need to prepare them properly.

Step 1

Wash all your fruits and vegetables and remove any damaged portions of the produce. This eliminates some of the dirt and any germs present on the produce and may also help improve the taste.

Step 2

Cut the fruits and vegetables into smaller pieces and remove the core and any other hard parts. This speeds the juicing process.

Step 3

Add the stems and leaves of the fruits and vegetables, with a few exceptions. Stems and leaves of carrots are toxic and should not be added to juice. Do not allow any apple seeds into your juice, as the seeds contain poisonous compounds. The leaves of foods such as celery, for example, can also add a bitter taste.

Step 4

Use your juicer until the fruits have a liquid-like consistency. Do not juice until the resulting beverage is completely homogenous, but you should juice until the resulting product can be easily consumed.

Step 5

Clean your juicer thoroughly after use. Mold can grow on what gets left behind. To keep this from happening, take the juicer apart after you use it. Rinse all the components with tap water. Use a toothbrush to clean any residue that remains, particularly on the strainer, where pulp can accumulate.
