When selecting an exercise hike for your home gym, it is useful to know its measurements to see if the bike fits into the space available. Exercise bikes may be approximately as short as three feet in length or up to five feet long. They may also be only one-and-a-half feet wide or over two feet. Checking the dimensions first ensures you have adequate room.

Upright Bikes

Upright exercise bikes are a staple in gyms and are often found in home gyms because of their generally smaller size when compared to recumbents or sports bikes. The NordicTrack C2 SI upright bike, for example, is only 39.25 inches long by 25.5 inches high by 15 inches wide, whereas the Schwinn 120 Upright Bike is even smaller at 36.5 inches long by 20.5 inches wide by 51.5 inches high. Some upright bikes are a little bit larger, such as the Schwinn 140 Upright Bike, which measures 42 inches long by 21 inches wide by 52 inches high.

Recumbent Bikes

Recumbent bikes have large, padded seats with a back support. These bikes are good for people with back problems but also more comfortable for people without back problems. Recumbent bikes are made by a variety of manufacturers. The Phoenix 99608 Magnetic Recumbent Exercise measures 58 inches long by 24 inches wide by 38 inches high and weighs 59 lbs. NordicTrack sells two recumbent bikes as of 2011, including the NordicTrack Commercial VR Bike and the Recumbent Exercise Cycle GX4.0. These bikes measure 59 inches long by 18 inches wide by 28 inches high and 52 inches long by 25.5 inches wide by 51.5 inches high respectively. Schwinn makes recumbent bikes as well, such as the Schwinn 240 Recumbent Bike -- 63 inches long by 25 inches wide by 46 inches high.

Sports Bikes

Sport bikes typically measure in size between uprights and recumbents. Sport bikes don't have large seats or pedals like recumbents. The NordicTrack GX2 Sport Bike does have a padded seat and handlebars similar to a road bike. This bike measures 48.6 inches long by 19.9 inches wide by 46.5 inches high.

Airdyne

Schwinn makes a brand of exercise bike called an Airdyne. The Airdyne bikes use wind resistance and have moving exercise arms for an upper body workout. This bike measures 50 inches long by 22.5 inches wide by 48 inches high and weighs 96 lbs.
