How Does the Weight Watchers Flex Plan Work?

Weight Watchers Flex Plan

The Weight Watchers Flex plan is also known as the Flex/Point plan. The Flex plan assigns points to each food based on carbohydrates, fat and fiber. Each Weight Watchers participant is allotted a certain number of points on the Flex plan per day based on age, current weight, gender and activity level. With the Flex plan, participants are allotted extra points, known as flex points for discretionary use during the week. These discretionary points can be used on ice cream, cookies or an extra serving of a favorite food. The current Flex plan offering is an additional 35 points per week.
The goal of the Flex plan is to be able to eat the foods you love but still achieve weight loss. There are no Weight Watchers-specific foods to purchase. Real foods are encouraged, with the focus on nutritious and satisfying choices. Members are allowed to eat any food as long as they stay within the allotted number of points for the week. Weight Watchers recommends core foods that are filling without added calories and that won't trigger the desire to overeat. Foods from all food groups are encouraged; whole grains, vegetables, fruits, lean meats, fish and poultry. The occasional treat is allowed and encouraged as long as it's within reason.

Weight Watchers Flex Plan Companion

Weight Watchers offers e-tools as a companion to weekly meetings. With e-tools, you can track your activity and foods. Members can chart progress toward established goals and search an inventory of healthy recipes. There is also an on-the-go option with downloadable software for the iPhone, Blackberry and Windows Mobile, making it easier to track foods and activity while mobile. There is a charge for e-tools, with discounted programs available.

Weight Watchers Online

The Flex plan is available online. The online plan boasts the ability to follow at your own pace and on your own time. The option exists to help individuals lose weight without weekly meeting attendance using online options. Recipes, meal ideas and exercise demonstrations exist for online Weight Watchers members. Interactive tools are available to track weight and activity habits. There are also individualized goals for members instead of cookie cutter options. Online options are ideal for frequent travelers or persons who don't have time for regular meetings.
