Devised in collaboration between Joe Scuderi and certified physical trainer Ned Lenny, Flow Training is a method of improving physical performance through techniques taken from not only modern exercise routines but also ancient Chinese and Indonesian martial arts. Flow Training may be tailored for any sport or athletic activity, including golf, with the methods meant to improve swing fluidity and power. In short, Flow Training combines Eastern martial arts with Western sports philosophy.

History

A self-proclaimed ordinary man, Scuderi doesn't claim to be an expert in anything and lacks an impressive list of credentials to support his claims: He merely found a way to translate his interest in Asia's dynamic movement methodologies into a practical program for training athletes. Scuderi took his findings to Lenny, the certified personal trainer, to ensure the movement and methods had a sound basis in sports physiology.

Features

Flow Training claims to enhance a golf swing's speed through ease of movement and not increased effort. The idea is to achieve grace while improving flexibility, strength, power, coordination and mental concentration. Flow Training teaches the discipline of allowing rather than directing movement, resulting in fluid, whip-like muscle action. Presented in a DVD format, the program consists of 10 separate routines, each created to improve your golf game. The individual 50-minute routines also have a Fundamental Level, an Expert Level and a Masters Level. Each routine builds off the previous one for greater complexity and sophistication. A diligent golfer should spend 3 to 6 months on each level before progressing to the next.

Sample Routine

The first Flow Training routine for golf lasts 50 minutes and features three distinct sections. The first section, which runs 20 minutes, involves performing four primary drills: the wave drill, the vertical infinity drill, the horizontal infinity drill and the horse stance drill. The routine's second section introduces weight resistance training with clubbells or kettlebells for 20 minutes. The routine concludes with 10 minutes of two gravity drills which stress rotational flexibility and hand rotation through impact.

Benefits

According to Scuderi, Flow Training will smooth out your golf swing, with the effortless movement leading to improved club head speed and more power upon ball contact. Since it requires less effort, Flow Training may also help reduce muscle strains, pulls and other common golf injuries.

Considerations

Flow Training is a physical training regime, not a means to fix your golf swing. Flow Training won't correct a nasty slice. However, Flow Training may help to strengthen your body and improve muscle mechanics to create a smoother, more effective golf swing. Flow Training aims to help you develop a powerful, corkscrew swing with improved body coiling and energy release for greater club head speed.
